Pauly and Gina Te Whata from Salsa Crew NZ will be at Salsa Tumbao 2023 with a Dominican Bachata workshop - focussing on the fancy Dominican footwork.

Salsa Crew NZ are such a great team - they're so great at making sure you feel welcome. Gina brings a touch of glamour; Pauly oozes talent; Wendy and Tony draw you in. They have a fantastic community connection in South Auckland.

We love that their classes include a little of everything – Salsa; Samba; Bachata; Merengue; Reggaeton; Mambo; Cumbia...
So you get a well-rounded understanding of Latin dance.

Dance memories are so much fun! Gina shared some of the highlights of their dance careers:

One of those highlights was when Paul and Gina were part of an outdoor dance show enroute to Hamilton. The truck that was hired was too small to dance on, so onto the grass - between potholes - they went. Salsa shoes and all! Fortunately, there were no ankle injuries. After that they climbed a steep hill to perform at the top. Like pros - they danced no matter the conditions.

Another highlight was guest apoearance on Pukana, TV dancing salsa.

Both have travelled abroad to Dubai dancing inSavage Garden Club for a month. Paul was there for five months prior - with another amazing Brazilian dancer - Celi Fonseca.

They were asked to return the following year Feb 1999 to perform at Bahrain Savage nightclub. A Chilean band  joined them and they all  performed 6 nights a week.  But Gina and Paul had to do classes beforehand. Their guest every Thurs night was Murza (.timbalee and percussionist ) from Santana band.  The whole band also participated in BATTLE OF THE BANDS  leaving the event  as runner up with a trophy for best costume . They also got to feature in the Bahrain magazine. Thanks to their friend George the photograher.

Later in Bahrain they performed with a Cuban band. Gina said the fenale singer's were beautiful , classy, could dance and the band top notch musicians.

Gina and Pauly were also privileged to perform on same stage with superstars Greydis and Vivio Ramos back in the early 2000s at the Telstraclear Event Centre. The floor was so slippery! they had to pour Coca cola onto the floor to make it less slippery . It kind of helped. Gina said they are both still in awe of such world class pro Cuban dancers.

Paul is the main dancer for Kantuta with the amazing dance partner Leara. He was also part of the dynamic Latin Fever dance troupe. Both  also danced in  Celi Fonseca and Megas dance troupe  where they met and  danced alongside Rosa from Oba Oba.

Gina said its  been a pleasure dancing with  her super talented brother over the years. We have met so many great dance teachers, performers and students who are our dear friends for life. Gina also acknowledges and thanks precious family and friends for their  ongoing love and support throughout their career and still to this day. And to Salsacrew for giving them a platform to showcase their talents. For providing fun filled latin vibes, and sounds in classes and social events for the peeps in South Auckland to expetience and enjoy. Before  signing off Gina would like to acknowledge the heartbeat of LATIN MUSICA - a  man who sang and played with so much soul and passion. Dear friend Gerrardo Torres. She said he was a drawcard everywhere him and his band played. My brother  and I and Salsacrew will always cherish memories of  him His legacy will live on forever.

Paul and I look forward to teaching in November. These beautiful peeps."

Whoa! That's a really impressive resumé!
